1. (b) Pench Tiger Reserve

Pench Tiger Reserve of Maharashtra has become India’s first and Asia’s fifth tiger reserve with ‘Dark Sky Park’. ‘Dark Sky Park’ helps protect the night sky and reduce light pollution. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) emphasizes the importance of preserving natural darkness for nature conservation and maintaining ecology in protected areas.

2. (a) Narendra Modi

PM Modi inaugurated India’s longest bridge built on the sea in Mumbai. This bridge connecting Mumbai to Navi Mumbai has been named ‘Atal Setu’ after the former Prime Minister of India, late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Atal Setu is 21.8 km long and has six lanes. ₹18,000 crore has been spent on this entire project.   

3. (b) Varanasi and Prayagraj

Varanasi and Prayagraj of Uttar Pradesh have been selected as the cleanest Ganga cities. MHOW Cantonment Board awarded as the cleanest cantonment town in Madhya Pradesh. Swachh Survekshan, conducted by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) under the Swachh Bharat Urban Mission since 2016, is the world’s largest survey on urban sanitation and hygiene.

4. (b) Viacom 18

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) recently signed a four-year agreement with Viacom18 to broadcast major hockey tournaments. This deal has been made for the period from 2023 to 2027. This includes all FIH events except the FIH Nations Cup. Hockey fans can watch on OTT platform JioCinema and Viacom 18’s linear channel network Sports18.   

5. (c) Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan

PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the 10th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in Gandhinagar. On this occasion, he expressed confidence that India will be one of the top three economies of the world in the coming years. UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was the chief guest of the event.

6. (b) Gabriel Atal

French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed Gabriel Attal as the next Prime Minister of France. Gabriel Atal is currently serving as the Education Minister. At 34, he is the youngest prime minister in modern French history. He has also left behind Laurent Fabius, who was appointed Prime Minister in 1984 at the age of 37.  

7. (a) Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan Education Minister Dr. Sushil Premajayantha has said that a new campus of IIT Madras will be started in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The proposal was part of the Budget 2024 presented by Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe as Finance Minister. Earlier, IIT-Madras had started its campus in Tanzania in November 2023.  

8. (c) Ritesh Pai

Indian fintech giant PhonePe has appointed Ritesh Pai as the new CEO of its international payments business. Before this he was working in UK fintech ‘Terapay’. PhonePe has a network of 500 million registered users and 37 million merchants across the country. Bengaluru-based PhonePe was established in the year 2015.   

9. (d) India

India will chair and host UNESCO’s ‘World Heritage Committee’. This will be the first time when India will chair this committee. This is a committee of UNESCO. In its 19th session, the World Heritage Committee had decided to hold the 46th session in India (New Delhi) which is to be held from 21 July to 31 July 2024.

10. (b) Assam

Recently, Chandubi Festival was organized on the banks of Chandubi Lake in the state of Assam. This festival is organized every year for five days from the first day of the New Year on the banks of Chandubi Lake. The main objective of Chandubi Mahotsav is to promote eco-tourism in this biodiversity hotspot of Assam.
